Title:
Outside the Palace
Monaco
May 2007

Project:
This is my favorite painting of the trip. I sat on a curb near the palace and looked up at an apartment just across the square. By the afternoon the sun had come out, the sky was blue, and all the colors of the buildings looked
just like how I had
imagined Southern
Europe would be.

St. Peter's Basilica
Rome, Italy
May 2007

Project:
I sat on the curb outside the gift shop of the Vatican and sketched the square in front of St. Peters. I got about this much done of the colonnade surrounding the square before someone parked a minivan in front of me
totally blocking the view.
Title:
Poolside
MSS Veendam
May 2007

Project:
On one of our days at sea we spent a blissful 5 hours by the pool. I painted this bronze sculpture of dolphins that rose from the pool.
Title:
Messina, Italy
May 2007

Project:
Church (Duomo) on a hill in Messina. This was done from the deck of the ship. I loved the trees lining the walk up to the duomo. They were umbrella pines and were everywhere we went.
Title:
Street on St. Marks
Venice, Italy
May 2007

Project:
We were in Venice for a few hours and I was able to do this sketch of a street near St. Marks. Its the side of a hotel that lines the square. Below the windows is a
small canal.
Title:
Palace Hill
Monaco
May 2007

Project:
The best paintings I did on our cruise were in Monaco. This view of a centuries old fort leading up to the modern palace was done from the ship's stern in dock. It was raining the morning I did
this painting and the wind
kept whipping the ship's
Dutch flag into view.
Title:
Heceta Head Lighthouse
Yachats, Oregon
May 2005

Project:
Heceta Head Lighthouse is the most photographed lighthouse in the country. It is truly striking along the rugged Oregon Coast. This is viewing the lighthouse from the front porch of the Keeper's House.
Title:
Hopi Point
Grand Canyon, AZ
October 2004

Project:
This is facing east from Hopi Point, looking at the same Temple drawn at Maricopa Point. I finished about 4pm and the sun was beginning
to set.
Title:
Maricopa Point
Grand Canyon, AZ
October 2004

Project:
This is looking west from Maricopa Point on the South Rim of the Canyon. The Wind was blowing directly in my face at about 50mph. Not the ideal location to draw, but I like this image of one of
the Temples.
Title:
Colorado River
Grand Canyon, AZ
October 2004

Project:
This is looking down at the Colorado River from Mojave Point, right at sunset. Almost everything in the river gorge was in shadow but the river itself was a slash of white.
